Wine Tasting at McMenamins Edgefield

McMenamins Edgefield is a fun place to visit. I like to stop into the wine cellar and taste their wines. The cellar is in the basement of the manor building. Walk down a ramp into the wine tasting room. The light is dim in the room. There is a small bar that is often very crowded. Glass walls separate the tasting room from the tanks where the wine is fermenting. Along the walls are tables and chairs in the style of all McMenamins. The furniture is a collection of items from garage sales, flea markets, thrift shop and attics. I sat in an old captain’s chair next to an oak coffee table from the 1970’s. The tasting fee is reasonable, ranging from a dollar to five dollars. They make a wide variety of wines, a few are Syrah, Merlot, Riesling, and Chardonnay. The table wines are delicious,
2005 Cuveé De L'abri Rouge, and 2004 Black Rabbit Red. I bought 2005 Umbrella Jimmy Dry Rosé Pinot Noir, a nice summer wine.
