Ruthies Rags Fifth Anniversary Sale

Ruth is having a fifth anniversary sale at her store. Today November 22, 2008 is the last day. The wonderful natural fabrics are 25% to 50% off. I bought purple knit bamboo and silk georgette. I had a great conversation with Ruth, she is fun to talk with.

Elmers Restaurant

Twice in the last month we have had breakfast after church at Elmer’s restaurant in Parkrose. Both times the staff were very accommodating of my mother in law’s gluten free diet. They substituted fruit for the toast that came with her scramble plate. I had a Belgian waffle with fruit topping and whipped cream on top. They also make yummy German pancakes.

Ruthie’s Rags is a Natural Fabric Shop located in Parkrose. The shop is on the list of most fabric shopping tours in Portland, OR. It carries a nice selection of natural fabrics, hemp, bamboo, linen, cotton, wool and silk. All the notions that you need to finish your project are available. You can find a wide selection of independent patterns. Classes are offered, given by top notch teachers. Ruth the owner is very friendly and fun to chat with. She stocks the store with the fabrics that she is passionate about. She is getting ready to launch an online store. Last time that I was in the store I bought a bamboo woven fabric printed in a tropical print and a linen blend embroidered fabric. I am going to make a Hawaiian type shirt and a cool skirt for summer.

I have been stopping in the German Bakery for cookies for over twenty years. The last time I was there I bought window cookies. The buttery jam filled cookies melt in your mouth. They make authentic German cookies, pastries and tortes. They make whole grain breads, like the kind baked in the old country. A little while ago they expanded into the building on the corner of the block and added a deli. The deli menu is reasonably priced with everything between 5 to 6 dollars. You can get sauerkraut with your sandwich. They have a fine selection of German beers, wines and foods. They even have those chocolate eggs with the prize inside.
